The Fair Bluff Watermelon Festival is our signature annual event and a proud celebration of the town’s agricultural heritage, community spirit, and love for North Carolina watermelons. The festival brings together residents and visitors for a full day of family‑friendly activities, entertainment, and small‑town charm.
Each year, the festival features a wide variety of activities designed for all ages. One of the main highlights is the watermelon competition, including contests for the largest watermelon and best‑quality watermelon, showcasing impressive melons grown locally and throughout the region. The ever popular watermelon‑eating contest adds fun andexcitement, drawing enthusiastic participants and spectators.
Rooted In Friendship
Dating back to around July 1986, the festival began as a friendly competition between friends to see who could grow the largest watermelon.
The Fair Bluff Watermelon Festival is held in partnership with The Fair Bluff Watermelon Growers Association. The association sponsors the watermelon contests each year.
A cherished tradition of the festival is the Fair Bluff Watermelon Pageants, which play an important role in celebrating community involvement and leadership. The pageants feature contestants from Fair Bluff and surrounding areas competing for festival titles. The pageants have become one of the most recognizable and well‑loved aspects of the Watermelon Festival, adding pageantry and tradition to the celebration.
